Naturopathic Medicine - What is it?
Naturopathic medicine is a non-pharmaceutical and systems based approach toward helping you feel your best.
We all want to feel great and age well so we can enjoy the things in our life that matter. Any symptom you are having, from low energy to eczema to headaches to acne to PMS to weight gain is just a sign your body is not - for one reason or another - in balance. Naturopathic Medicine is a specialized medicine that works with you the client at figuring out those reasons.
NDs recognize that just like a car needs regular maintenance and proper fuel to function at its best long term so does the body. Naturopaths also understand how the body heals and what it takes to bring the body back into balance and have the body and mind and spirit feeling fantastic.
There are different ways NDs assess. Some times a specialized test is indicated to help find the cause and give specific treatments toward what your body’ needs. Dr. Monika uses a combination of natural approaches - from nutrition to herbs to homeopathy to acupuncture to lifestyle counselling to mindfulness techniques like yoga nidra. We get to the bottom of what is going on, get systems back up and runnin' and have you feeling your best.
Naturopathic Doctors complete a minimum 3 years of undergrad University education including premed requirements before applying for entry into a full-time 4 year Naturopathic Medical School Training. There are currently two accredited schools in Canada (Toronto and Vancouver) and 4 in the States. Board exams and certification follow the 2nd and 4th year of training and the students work in a clinic setting to increasing degrees through the program under the supervision of senior NDs. www.cand.com for more information.
