The Return of a Sexual Vitality that Deeply Nourishes (and some fave herbs that support!)

There’s a version of sexuality that’s about chasing stimulation …

And there’s a version that’s about coming back into relationship with yourself. 💕

One is not better than the other but a desire for something other than or in addition to the spike-and-crash, dopamine-driven “get turned on, get off” model started to stir in me about 10 years ago. Lately more and more women are sharing with me a similar yearning for something more.

What we care about is connection ….

The kind where your body softens, your breath deepens, and pleasure feels like something you’re meeting—not forcing.

In my Reignite Your Feminine Fire work, we open to this level of reconnection with self—where the body then can actually receive.

When we’re disconnected, we tend to work harder… try more things …. add more protocols …. and still feel like something is missing.

How we relate to ourself, our body, and our capacity to feel —- this is where palable aliveness and vitality awakens.

In my naturopathic practice over the years I get questions about what herbs or nutrients could support low libido and I wanted to share a bit within the framework of this more yin/feminine/connected model of sexuality.

Herbs can really be a lovely ally to a women’s body that’s learning how to soften, feel pleasure, and open 🌹!

Here’s how I think about some common herbs that support awakening pleasure pathways that ignite connection and make available a whole other level and flavour of replenishment and well-being.

The Roots of Connected Pleasure

1. Safety (Nervous System First)
If your body doesn’t feel safe, it won’t open.

Ashwagandha can be wnderful here—helping the body move out of vigilance and into a more receptive, relaxed state.

2. Heart Opening (Emotional Connection)
This is where pleasure becomes meaningful, not mechanical.

Saffron can gently support emotional openness—less about stimulation, more about softening.

3. Embodiment (Being in Your Body)
You can’t feel deeply if you’re not here.

Cacao + rose as a ritual can be beautiful for this—
as a way to slow down and meet yourself.

4. Vital Warmth (Life Force, Not Urgency)
Desire doesn’t come from pressure.
It comes from having enough energy and presence to feel.

Maca can support that steady, grounded vitality.

I might suggest 1 or 2 as we work with allowing a deeper shift to more freedom here to emerge.

With this ….
A lightness, playfulness and vibrancy comes online. Our glow and aliveness returns bringing fresh vitality to all areas of our life..

Libido isn’t something you force.

It’s something that emerges when your body feels safe enough to open and play again.

Oxytocin comes back on line rejuvenating body, mind and soul (the master female hormone of connection, enjoyment & pleasure).

Oxytocin isn’t activated so much with intensity (that’s more dopamine).
It comes from presence.
From trust.
From being met fully —starting with yourself.

No herb replaces this felt reconnection but they can support the return. 👑

And when that happens …

pleasure stops being something you chase— and becomes something you’re deeply nourished by and fuels your life. 🌹
